Image
In the book Because the Baron Broods By Darcy Burke Tamsin Penrose, a young lady who grew up only with her father, having been abandoned by her mother at an early age, is spending a month with her grandmother as per the arrangement that came about after her mother's departure. She spends time with her friends there, who are also her agemates. According to her and her upbringing, she plans to spend the rest of her life as a spinster. But on this particular trip, she happens to meet with Isaac Deverell, Baron Droxford, who is charming but withdrawn and sad, a situation brought about by a dark past that must remain a secret no matter what. Tamsin now finds herself making it her obligation to draw out the joy that she believes is buried deep within him, as she is familiar with sad situations in her life. The more they meet, the more Isaac finds it hard to keep away from her. But there's something that he does not know: Tamsin is already betrothed to her father's friend, who...

Review of Calm the Storm by Penny Fairbanks

Image
Calm the Storm Penny Fairbanks is a historical fiction book where the two main characters, Felicity and Atticus, have strikingly different personalities. They have been brought together in mysterious circumstances because an anonymous Lady Swan seems to predict the future of various couples in the area even before they meet. Now it's Felicity's turn, but there is a problem. Everyone around her knows that she has vowed to remain a spinster because she believes married life is not meant for her. Unlike her twin sister Mercy, she happens not to be her mother's favorite child, and that makes her see the world differently. True to Lady Swan's words, A timid Atticus arrives together with his family and this makes Felicity more apprehensive about the mysterious letter Lady Swan wrote her. She is more determined to stand her ground, but fate has a different plan for her because they meet with the predicted future husband without planning to do so, and one thing leads to anot...

Review of The Plot Twist by Victoria Walters

Image
The Plot Twist by Victoria Walters is a book written as a continuation of her other book, The Love Interest. The main characters of this book are Noah and Stevie, who were a couple six years ago but things didn't work out well as Noah suddenly left without any explanation, leaving Stevie devastated. Stevie decided to leave the dating scene and bury herself in her work, where they used to work with her friend Liv in a university library. But then, later on, she decided to pursue her dreams of becoming a publisher, and to her surprise, her boss turned out to be none other than her ex-boyfriend Noah. This makes her confused as to whether her decision to pursue her dreams would be possible with this turn of events. She realizes that she has some serious decisions to make, whether to return to where she came from or follow her dreams, given this twist of fate. I like the humor in the book, especially in the first part, like on page 37. "conscious that I was in public and my masca...

Review of Breaking Through the Silicon Ceiling by Christine King

Image
Breaking Through the Silicon Ceiling by Christine King is an inspiring story of her life and how she triumphed over adversity and obstacles in her life. She narrates her journey from being jobless to being a successful CEO of a semiconductor company. Her journey mostly dwells on IBM, a semiconductor organization that molded her, and how her determination brought about her success. She has also touched on her personal life as well as her hobbies, so the book is all-rounded. I like the way the author has narrated everything that touches her life, big and small, good and bad, in her life journey. She has likewise not left out successes and failures, not to mention those who have helped her along the way as well as those who have let her down. It has been an extraordinary learning experience as I read through the book and found out that it is not a book to read in one sitting but one that needs to be digested slowly. I rate this book, Breaking Through the Silicon Ceiling by Christine King...
