Review of Coming Home to Starr’s Fall, by Kate Hewitt

Image
In the book Coming Home to Starr’s Fall, by Kate Hewitt , Laurie Ellis has made up her mind to move to Starr’s Fall to start over because she believes that it is her town of origin. Having grown up in foster homes, she now finds herself wanting to belong somewhere. The people here are welcoming and others are grumpy, Joshua Reilly being a good example of the grumpy ones. Life has taught her to be positive, which is the way to go when dealing with him. Surely there must be something buried deep within this handsome, grumpy bookstore manager, who seems to be living in a world of his own, needing no disturbance, even though he is her immediate neighbor. As she settles in this small town, life takes a different turn, making her make several life decisions. Find out more in this book,  Coming Home to Starr’s Fall, by Kate Hewitt . I like how simple yet intense the book is; maybe it's the setting of the story, which is based on a small town. The story draws out the contrast between small...

Review of Look What You Made Me Do by Amy Andrews

Image
The book Look What You Made Me Do by Amy Andrews begins on a sad note with Headteacher Ella Lucas in grief over the demise of her mother, who had a dark past. She's not only in grief but also angry at the people in her town who keep gossiping about her mother and associate her with the dark past. Determined to get rid of it, she moved away, only to come back to her mother's funeral and find out that she had a teenage brother. Similarly, football star Jake Prince also hails from that town, but with a different dark past. They find each other again while both trying to get rid of their dark past, which refuses to go away, no matter what. With their complicated history, a school to save, and the sparks between them, who knows what the future holds? Find this out in the book  Look What You Made Me Do by Amy Andrews I like Ella and Jake as characters and how strong and determined they are despite their difficult pasts. I additionally like the spirit in the boys and the inner streng...

Review of Second Act by Henry Oliver

Image
Second Act by Henry Oliver is a book about late bloomers or people who discover their path to success later in their lives, contrary to the belief that success can only come in more youthful years. The author has given many examples of late bloomers who have become great people in society, some of whom have done wonders even as late as 90 years of age. He has shown how interruptions of life have brought about significant changes in the lives of people who had otherwise settled for less, only to discover that life has new surprises for them. He has also given great advice, accompanied by real people's life experiences, what made them fail, and what made them succeed. I like the real-life stories the author has given in the book. It was interesting to have a peek into the lives of these individuals. Good examples include the story about Frank Lloyd Wright and Yitang Zhang. The normal struggles of life and the way success is achieved eventually is quite encouraging. I also like the...

Review of Not in My Book by Katie Holt

Image
In Not in My Book by Katie Holt Rosie Maxwell and Aiden Huntington are exact opposites who can't seem to see each other eye-to-eye because they completely hate each other. It all started with their different preferences for the kind of books they write. Aiden wrote literary fiction books but Rosie preferred romance books with happy endings. Aiden never missed a chance to berate Rosie in every lesson that Ida their teacher was presiding over, and Rosie came to loathe him as well. It became so bad that the class could only witness their unpleasant insult exchanges until their teacher could not take it anymore and so she had to find a way to make this work. The only way she could think of was to put the two enemies on the same side for the class to find much-needed peace The only way she could think of was to make them write the same book, and if not, they had to quit her class, which they could not afford to do. So they take on the difficult task of trying to work together to avoid ...
