Review of Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War and Its Aftermath by Randy Miller

Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War and Its Aftermath by Randy Miller is a historical fiction book based on American history, which unfortunately is not very pleasant. The author tells the story of a young Vietnam veteran known as Zack Martin who, despite being a brilliant soul, is unfortunate enough to be caught up in what people call service for the country. Still, that service turns out to be a source of torment and immense pain.

I have read many books, but this one is just an exception. This is a book written not just because the author is talented or even just for fun, but because it is what I would call a purpose-driven book. One written right from the heart. The injustices done to an ordinary person who has given his all for service to his country, a task that needed total commitment, a commitment that was even required to be put above everything, at times even above one's life, are not only inhuman but also evil. Although the book reflects so much pain, the author has managed to capture every aspect of everyday life, bringing out love, adventure, family, and even friendships. The book has managed to take its readers to a different world, one that is not talked about nowadays, and, although it may sound like a past, it is a past that is still here with us because suffering is still going on. The author is brave enough not to just remember the past and keep quiet, but he has taken whatever he has in his hand and used it to do his part in an attempt to make it known to the world, and, hopefully, the injustices will cease. And that is what I like about this book.

This book gave me a wealth of knowledge about history I had only heard and taken for granted. I have also learned of a way of life quite different from what I am familiar with. One has to read the book for themselves to get the real picture. After reading the book, I thought that the author must have gone through the experience he is narrating about himself and also done thorough research to come up with such a complex narrative. His intelligence has also been manifested in the way he has put everything together and driven his point home.

I rate the book Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War and Its Aftermath by Randy Miller 4 out of 5 stars.

I would recommend this book to adults who are not only patriotic but also love justice and value lives. I would also recommend it to those who are not afraid to stand up to be counted as people who will bring about change where it is needed most.
