Review of If the Duke Dares by Darcy Burke

Image
In the book, If the Duke Dares by Darcy Burke , the Duke of Wellesbourne, namely Acton Loxley, has a new mission of acquiring a wife. However, this was not his choice but his mother's, who had arranged for a meeting with the bride's family. On the other hand, the bride-to-be, Persephone Barclay, is not enthusiastic about this arrangement for several reasons. Firstly, the husband-to-be has a very bad reputation, and secondly, her parents have financial problems and she knows that they are using her for their selfish reasons so she decides to take off. However, as fate would have it they happened to meet with no other than the one person she is running away from. Her efforts to avoid him are proving to be futile since she has found herself in an awkward position and in dire need of help as well as protection and now she does not know whether to accept his help or to decline it, since there are some rules she must not break come what may. Will she accept this much-needed help? w...

Review of Hours of You by Fiona Collins

Image
Hours of You by Fiona Collins is a book about Ed, a Hollywood superstar, and Maggie, a journalist, who first met in their teenage years, but somehow fate has not dealt very well with their relationship. People have come and gone, and careers have soured, but now time is of the essence here as they do not seem to be getting any younger, and as an opportunity emerges for Maggie to find Ed, on an island of escape from his life's pains, she decides to take it, not really knowing what awaits her. Deep down, they both hope that this time fate will be good to them. For this to happen, they need to think carefully about what each of them needs, the compromises they will need to make, and, above all, since they are now getting older, whether this is what they want for the rest of their lives. Will that happen? Well, how about we figure it out here in this book, Hours of You by Fiona Collins? What I like most about the book is the way the author has managed to elevate the suspense in the bo...

Review of Brighter Days By Patrick Regan

Image
Brighter Days by Patrick Regan is a book that revolves around mental well-being. It's a book that gives steps and demonstrations of how to cope with life's challenges and their aftermath. The author creates a professional awareness of the different negative responses that we go through sometimes; not able to recognize or even put a finger on the particular feelings, he brings them up on the surface and gives different ways of coping with them. The book offers ways of dealing with anxiety, depression, shame, anger, self-acceptance, and forgiveness, just to mention a few. What I like about the book is the way the author is well-informed about the subject of mental wellness. It shows in how he tackles different emotions comprehensively and with a firm touch of professionalism. I also like the way the author can get to the readers and show them that being “vulnerable and even having mental issues just implies that they are human”; the encouragement and lifting of people's spir...

Review of No Place Like Home by Barbara O'Neal

Image
No Place Like Home by Barbara O'Neal is a book that generally dwells on the family. The narration involves a main character, Jewel, who is surrounded by several similarly significant characters, namely Michael, who is her best friend; Michael's brother Malachi; Jewel's son Shane; not to mention Jewel's family, her parents, sisters, and even her grandmother. In her teenage years, Jewel was what one would call a wild teenager who made an impulsive decision to run off to New York with her lover, an upcoming musician who unfortunately did not become a successful artist and ended up miserable, a misery in which he likewise swept Jewel along with him. Things turned around when a relative left her inheritance to Jewel, who now had no choice but to go back to her roots with her son. She decided to take his friend Michael along with her since he was now sickly, and later Malachi was to join them. When she went back to her family, for obvious reasons, she didn't seem to fit ...
