In A promising kiss by Alexa Aston Matthew, a 12-year-old boy whose father is a duke is an unhappy kid. The duke is a cruel and irresponsible man, having Matthew's mother committed to a madhouse leaving him with no one to care for him. He completes schooling regardless of his problems. Fortunately or unfortunately, the duke dies while partying and now matthew has to take over Dukedom at his tender age. When he became an adult, he turned out to be a very responsible young man, and this is where he meets the lady, Lady Verona, who he suspects to be the love of his life. The introduction of the book was very easy to follow. It was also interesting too. Readers will easily get absorbed in the story. I liked that about the book.

After the introduction part, the book became a bit vague, with new characters and all, and it was quite difficult to understand where they fit in the story. The body of the story is also circling so much around people who are not main characters, I feel like the main characters have not been given enough attention by the author. Those are the things I didn't like about the book.

I rate this book A Promising Kiss by Alexa Aston 3 out of 5 stars.

I recommend it to those readers who like historical fiction books, with close-knit families that care deeply for one another.
